August 24, 2020 - My Unexpected Journey

So it has been almost 8 months since I was diagnosed with kidney cancer and Wednesday will be my first scan since I started treatment. I will finally get to see if I’m making any progress.

We have moved back to North Carolina from Savannah. New home, and new doctor, but it feels good to be home. Funny how this pandemic has changed things for so many people including us, but then again nothing remains the same.

It has been tough to make all the changes in my life that I have had to make, diet being the biggest one. Going from a meat and potatoes guy to a 90% veggie diet has not been easy. The exercise was something I had already started before the diagnosis so that was easy enough, but man I sure would like some barbecued ribs right about now. Big piece of blueberry pie would be nice as well, but I just can’t go there. Maybe later down the road I can slip some in now and then but for now I have got to stay on track. If I had been raised a vegetarian it would have been much easier.

Change is never easy but sometimes it is necessary, and this is one of those times in my life that change is good. I’ve learned to turn change into a challenge. It makes it much easier to go through. I’ve completed 4 infusions so far, and still doing well except for a little fatigue which is normal this far into the treatment. Keep me in your prayers on Wednesday.

I love all of you and so does God,
